Bat Moth Event Poster

On the first Friday of September, the community met its creatures of the night.

Starting after eight in the evening, we found bats over the Moor, then walked to the community orchard, where we discovered its moths.

Adam Linnet of Cheshire Wildlife Trust led us through the adventure, enthralling us with his explanations.

Everyone was excited to watch the bats flitting over the Moor Pool and hear them clicking on our bat detectors as they hunted by echolocation.

Judging by their size and echolocation frequency, we believed them to be two species, Pipistrelle and Daubenton’s bats.

Back at the orchard, Adam set up a light trap to attract moths.

He identified them one by one…

…and found twelve species:

For refreshments, we had beer donated by Tatton Brewery and toasted marshmallows.

The event was so popular that we aim to run it again next year.

We hope you will join us then.
