WE’VE CREATED A bug hotel in the corner of the orcahrd.
Using pallets donated by Travis Perkins and filled with materials collected during previous days preparing the orchard the hotel has a range of habitats created from bricks, tiles, twigs and pebbles. It has a living roof with grass collected from edging the paths – nothing goes to waste!
The bug hotel provides a home for a range of insects including those vital for pollination and eating common pests!
If you want to make a bug hotel, check out this great guide from the RSPB: https://www.rspb.org.uk/get-involved/activities/nature-on-your-doorstep/garden-activities/build-a-bug-hotel/
We’ve also recently installed a Hedgehog House (well bungalow) and in the autumn will be adding a range of bird boxes (different birds prefer different styles) and some bat boxes too!
