The sun was shining on Saturday (20th) for the Crosstown Community Orchard’s now annual summer BBQ.
2nd Knutsford Scouts manned the grill to serve up burgers, sausages and veggie burgers to guests whilst the orchard trustees served up a range of drinks. Little Waitrose supported the event by providing Pimms (along with the requisite lemonade, cucumber and strawberries) whilst Tatton Brewery donated cans of their Tatton Eleven ale. Guests also had the option of cider and apple juice produced locally in Dunham Massey.
Guests were entertained with live music from Small Horse and the Plan, Chris Howarth and Mike Wilding and friends whilst a range of lawn games were also played.
The event was provided free of charge with the aim of bringing the community together. Guests were invited to make donations which covered all costs of the event with a small surplus which will go towards running the space.
“Our aim with the community orchard is to bring the community together and hosting our community BBQ is a small part of that. We had a great afternoon and would like to thank all those who supported it and made it possible” said Crosstown Community Orchard chairman Adam Keppel-Green.
The next event taking place at the orchard is a bat walk and moth trapping evening ran by Cheshire Wildlife Trust. Participants will walk from the Moor via the Barncroft, identifying bats using call detectors, and finishing at the Orchard where we will examine a non-lethal trap to identify the local moths. The evening will start just after dusk, to join please email adam@crosstowncommunityorchard.org.uk.
